The Brief
Each Storyteller will be paired with a community within Slough to untold and untaught stories that come from within the chosen community. Through a series of workshops delivered by the Storyteller, community members will explore techniques and ways of storytelling, thinking creatively about their community and its place within Slough. Community members will be encouraged to share their stories to each other within the workshops.
The chosen Storytellers will:
- Develop practical storytelling workshops to support their paired community explore their past and future within Slough.
- Create workshops that are accessible and flexible to the needs of the chosen community group, bearing in mind language and access needs.
- Develop a story themselves that is inspired from the workshops and community members that can be performed as part of community sharings and public campfire events.
We’re particularly interested in hidden, untold and untaught stories of Slough that celebrate the diversity and passion we have for our Town.
The Storytellers
We’re keen to receive applications from storytellers who have a connection to Slough. Experience of working within community groups or community settings and developing workshops to shape stories is preferrable.
Beyond this we’re open to how people identify as storytellers provided they can demonstrate an understanding of the social and cultural activity and benefit of storytelling.
Communities
We are currently in the process of selecting the different communities that we shall be engaging as part of this activity. We shall be ensuring these communities are diverse and representative of Slough and are working with our Community Programming Board to select these.
Public CAMPFIRE
As part of this activity we shall be producing a public CAMPFIRE event(s) in the heart of Slough, allowing everyone to experience the joy of storytelling. Each storyteller shall present their story inspired from the community group they have been working with as part of an hour-long event. The pieces shall be centered around a specially commissioned campfire using recycled materials from Slough. An additional fee shall be provided for these as outlined below.
When
We’re anticipating this activity will run across December ‘21 and January ‘22 with the public performance event taking place end of January.
Fees
We’re offering a fee of £1100 to each storyteller. We envisage this will be broken down as:
- £200 prep fee.
- £600 workshop delivery (3 workshops).
- £200 to host and manage the delivery of a community performance/campfire.
- £100 additional for sharing your communities’ story at one of the other community events.
There will be an additional fee for the public facing delivery of the brief. No expenses shall be offered as part of this fee.
