Herschel Remixed Call Out

HOME Slough and The Dionysus Ensemble are seeking musicians and musical artists/groups to submit their music with the chance to secure a micro-commission as part of the Herschel Remixed project.

5 micro-commissions are available for the creation of new music inspired by the previously unrecorded music of the composer William Herschel. A panel made up of Slough community members will select which artists/groups will receive a £500 commission.

What is Herschel Remixed?

Celebrating William Herschel’s bicentenary year, The Dionysus Ensemble will be recording previously unrecorded work of Herschel. The company shall be working with school children and community groups to create new interpretations of the newly recorded Herschel music, which will be performed on Saturday 26 March.

As part of this project HOME Slough are seeking to commission an additional 5 artists/groups to create new music inspired by Herschel’s work that can be performed as part of the public performance.

How do I get involved?

In the first instance we have a simple form to fill out where you can supply a link to a piece of original music you/your group have created. Our Commission Panel will review all the music submitted and select 5 artists/group to receive the micro-commissions of £500. It’s that simple!

Who are we looking for?

Anyone who has experience of creating original music that can be performed live. The only criteria; you need to live in Slough.

You could be a choir, a guitarist, a vocalist, a beatboxer, a classical trained musician – maybe you play the kazoo! All music is encouraged.

If selected what will the commission be?

If you’re selected by the Commission Panel you’ll receive a micro-commission of £500 to develop a new piece of music inspired by the Herschel recording. We’ll be looking for a 2-5 minute song that can be performed live. Other than that, you can interpret the music however you want. You could remix it, rearrange it, write a whole new song or use similar themes/motifs to be inspired by. We’re purposely keeping this open to allow creativity to take centre stage.

You will need to be available on Saturday 26 March to perform the work.
